Aegis gives shot in the arm to Manchester property market

Bookmark and Share Submitted on the 13th of July, 2011
In what would represent a major coup for the Manchester property market, it is being reported that Aegis is moving into the city.
An article by journalist Simon Binns for news and lifestyle website Manchester Confidential reveals the outsourcing giant has agreed to take on 35,000 sq ft of office space in the centre of the city. Some 350 jobs will be created over the next year as a direct result of the move, the exclusive Manchester property news story claims.
Having compared the advantages and disadvantages of several leading UK cities, Aegis has opted to base itself at City Tower, Piccadilly Plaza. The building boasts 28 floors and over 600,000 sq ft of space, making it Manchester's highest office block and also one of the biggest. Like other famous Manchester buildings such as Bridgewater House and Portland Tower, City Tower is run by family-owned commercial property specialist Bruntwood.
Aegis' decision is a "positive move for Manchester" in a tough economic climate, according to a source inside the Manchester property scene. He added: "There's still not a lot of activity in the city centre market and the half-yearly figures will stand at around 300,000 sq ft, which is down by about 30 per cent on the half-year average and 50 per cent on last year."
Manchester property news stories – covering areas such as the state of the market, planning permission and new buildings – are published on a regular basis on Manchester Confidential. However, the website also maintains active lifestyle sections looking at topics such as food and drink, health and beauty, kids, entertainment and culture.
